Method
- Combine the ingredients – In a medium saucepan, add the pumpkin puree, water, brown sugar, and white sugar. Stir to combine everything smoothly.
- Add the spices – Next, add the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Whisk until the mixture is well incorporated.
- Simmer – Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally to make sure the sugar fully dissolves, and the spices blend in with the pumpkin.
- Let it cook – Allow the syrup to simmer for about 10–15 minutes, until it thickens slightly and reaches a syrupy consistency.
- Add vanilla – Once the syrup has thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. This will add an extra layer of flavor.
- Strain (optional) – If you notice any lumps or want a super smooth syrup, use a fine mesh strainer to strain the syrup into a clean jar or bottle.
- Cool and store – Let the syrup cool to room temperature before storing it in a glass container. It will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Notes
To ensure your pumpkin spice syrup stays fresh, store it in an airtight container in the fridge. Over time, you may notice some settling of the pumpkin puree, so give it a good shake before using. This syrup also makes a fantastic gift for friends and family during the fall season!
